Wine during the year

The choice of wine depends on many factors: the food, the time of the day, the situation (daily or special occasion), the guests, your whim and last but not least the time of the year. In the following we are going to deal with the influence of the weather represented by the month of the year. Since this is written in Denmark, you naturally have to correct to your own latitude and side (northern/southern part) of the earth.

 

As food is one of the major influents on the choice of wine, an appropriate dish is suggested for each wine.

 

January

In January it has usually become real winter. It's winter and snow, and you could need a soup to get the heat. If we are talking about a clear soup with vegetables and small pieces of meat or meatballs, I will suggest a Saumur Champigny made from Chenin Blanc.

Now it is time for mushrooms and the like. They should be fried in butter at a semihigh temperature and end in a delisius cream sauce spiced with paprika. Could be served with checkered beef in the sauce and mashed potatoes. A Nebbiolo will be perfect, it has the good spices of tobacco and tar and the needed power.
